About us
What makes an electric violin truly exceptional?
Is it just the sound — rich, dynamic, and natural — or the unique woods and the craftmanship?
Or the way it feels like an extension of your own expression? Boolean Instruments was founded on the belief that every musician deserves an instrument that doesn’t just perform but inspires.
The story begins with a lawyer who, during his university years, spent more time behind mixing consoles than in lecture halls, working as a live sound engineer by night and recording music by day. Later, as a Unity XR developer collaborating with machinists and engineers, he discovered a fascination for the precision and artistry of craftsmanship. This unusual path eventually led Dr. Márton Helényi, founder of Boolean Instruments, to build his first CNC machine, and soon after, his first electric violin.
Two years later, Boolean Instruments was officially born, with the very first violin finding its home in Finland with the director of a music school.
Today, every Boolean instrument is a testament to this journey, combining the best of handcrafting and machine precision to achieve unparalleled quality. The only components not manufactured in-house are the finetuners and the strings.
At Boolean Instruments, we don’t just create violins—we seek to understand the profound connection between a musician and their instrument. This relationship transcends technique and craftsmanship; it’s a kind of alchemy, like a wizard finding the wand, where the instrument becomes an extension of the musician’s soul.
